I was in Edinburgh on Saturday at the Yes Scotland Independence March and Rally. I was not alone. There has been a great deal of argument about the exact number of marchers. In this day and age someone somewhere could count the mass from above using an app, and settle the matter. But does it indeed matter? I stood at the front of the march and counted ten or more in our row. We were about ten rows from the front. A hundred people in less than ten yards of road. It took well over an hour for the procession to assemble on he hill and still the marchers were on Edinburgh streets. Those at the latter stages had to remain at the bottom of the hill and view proceedings from a large screen. The police had closed the hill for health and safety. The hill was full.
The speeches began and an assortment of political voices were raised in common cause. Their politics ranged from far left to right, but they were all in agreement about one thing. Scotland would be BETTER independent.
A YES vote was requested next September to offer a BETTER future for our young people and a BETTER retirement for our elderly citizens.
A YES vote was requested next September to offer the Scots of today a BETTER tomorrow.
Each and every speaker delivered a passionate message. I didn’t agree with the politics of all, but I saw hope for our future arising from those voices. I sensed a new beginning where a truly Scottish political landscape would be formed IN Scotland FOR Scotland and BY Scots.
Self determination would deliver a new beginning for all political parties, an opportunity to change for the BETTER by re-focusing on issues pertaining to our own sovereign country.
We have a wealth of able politicians who are passionate about their country. They have experience of devolved government and have proved that they can indeed run our country for our benefit.
Next September WE have the chance to give THEM the chance to do just that.
I for one will be voting YES!
