For the last two weeks the area around us has been like a WW1 film set. Deep trenches surrounded by mounds of earth (which have recently developed a sheen of green) have been a permanent feature in our locale. They are supposed to be putting new electric and gas cables into three rows of caravans, but sadly resources were not available for the job to be finished as planned . Our exit route is one-way over a steep bank or around a narrow pathway which is flooded and slippery. Not a place for the feint-hearted to reside, but then none of us here is of that persuasion. Hardiness is part of our psyche. Yesterday I tied a long rope of attached dog leads to our front deck. We can now at least abseil up and down without achieving wet knees or bottoms!
We could of course leave, but where would the challenge be in that??
