WMD?

Snow, nature’s weapon of mass destruction, has all but halted the lives of the majority of the UK. Despite warnings of excessive dumps, humans try to go about their usual business at usual times and are thwarted by the slush and ice. Business centres in the capital cannot function as employees fail to reach the city sweatshops. Trains are late, planes can’t operate, and buses slither alongside taxis trying to negotiate roads which haven’t been cleared of the white stuff. Raging parents are called to collect their kids from schools which can’t function without the requisite number of staff and pay greater heed to ‘health and safety’ rules than to the needs of the parents who have other things to do, like join the queues of cars dodging along snow-covered streets!
The world outside the UK must look on and laugh at our antics. A wee drop of snow stops this supposedly great country from functioning? Unthinkable! Impossible! We have the warning systems. We have the brand new shiny snow-ploughs and mountains of grit to spread. But do we have people with the savvy to use them?
Naw…..no way….. not in a month of Sundays!!!
The only ones with any savvy are the kids(and cats)who take to their sledges and skis and skates and ENJOY the WMDs- winter mayhem days.

Preparing for icy, snowy conditions isn’t ingrained in our national psyche.
I recall, when living in the south of England, a flutter of snow used to leave the roads looking like a battle field.
