There are a couple of cones beside our tent. Perhaps they should have a notice attached-‘Born Again Campers- Beware!’
We have survived a day and a night and are now well into our second day. Already, herself is planning the ‘Get-Out’ although had we not been having visitors this week-end we would certainly have opted to stay another night, such is our delight at the way we have managed our rebirth!
Today we moved to plan B before getting 100yards along plan A, which was to walk along the river-side to Aberfoyle. We set off rucksacks on back, and discovered we’d forgotten the doggy bags. Back again at base camp we decided that it would be too hot to walk there and back, and given our energy expenditure of yesterday, we might be pushing ourselves a bit too much!
In the car and off to the Marshall Lodge to view Go-Ape, a high-wire act that is not for the faint-hearted! We watched as the group were instructed in the necessary procedures to avoid certain death, looked at the wire stretching a couple of hundred yards across a deep valley into the tree-line beyond, and decided that once we might have done it, four decades ago! Now, with ageing bones, arthritic hands, and no head for heights, this would not be in the top hundred things to do before we die!!! Instead we watched the brave souls, all of them in their teens or twenties, fasten themselves onto the wire and swoosh off across the valley.
We rewarded our efforts of restraint by having an ice cold drink and a lump of cake, before heading back to base camp to swelter in the sun, have a late lunch then revisit the walk idea from earlier. We made it half way to Aberfoyle, but once again were stopped by the intensity of heat, and the need to keep in the shade. We returned back to base camp again, this time to shower and enjoy the late afternoon sun before thinking of an aperitif before dinner.
Aperitif taken, dinner eaten, now after dinner drinks and cake! Early to bed, early to rise and prepare to get up and go home before our next trip the week-end after next. Busy times ahead-hope the weather holds, though would welcome a cooling breeze!
Almost the end of day two….
